I started at CSULB pre-covid and really enjoyed campus culture and really tasty food from the Golden Nugget and other concession stands throughout campus. The campus layout is extremely inviting with lots of open space for diverse vendors, student organized groups, and aide organizations (CalFresh) representatives to help students gain social and financial support as well as plenty of leisure activities. I really enjoyed the diversity of professors having took classes that I loved so much because of the professor alone, and others that challenged me to overcome obstacles and challenge points of view that I did not agree with. Some of my favorite amenities to utilize were the gym, rock climbing wall, bowling alley, and the movie theater nights hosted weekly on campus! As for some of the negative experiences, parking is challenging I would recommend leaving extra early for class as well as lack of food avaliablility after COVID reopening. 1/2 of dining halls were closed.

California State University, Long Beach, promised me an extensive education in my field of study, Cinematic Arts, and I believe they have kept that promise in most regards. The professors are quite competent in their fields of study, and the university offers several programs for extracurricular opportunities (within and unrelated to the school). However, I feel that CSULB has fallen short when it comes to the tuition rate reflecting properly in the program. As an out of state student, I am expected to pay about $10,000 for tuition and fees alone, yet I am constantly told by faculty that our program does not have enough money to fund certain expectations such as providing updated and working film equipment, administering enough grants for senior thesis films that reflect the student population growth, or even installing air conditioning into all of the buildings. Thus, I would say that my overall experience with CSULB is enriching and valuable but also disheartening.

Well, I just completed my first year as a freshman, and it was pretty good! Because it was my first year, I initially struggled a lot with making friends and putting myself out there, but eventually I was lucky enough to meet some fun people and I gained the energy and motivation to attend school events! The campus is gorgeous, even on a cloudy day, and the students attending the school are pretty chill and fun to be around! There is definitely a strong community, and there's plenty of opportunities for free food, stuff to do in your free time, and ways to connect with people! Dorming is a pretty good experience too, mostly thanks to the amenities and meal plans available. There's also a community within each dorm group, so no matter where you choose to live, there's good things about each of them.
